Mission

The Florida Lung Transplant Center is dedicated to providing the highest level of quality care in a patient-friendly atmosphere, fostering strong collaboration in the advancement of education and innovative research

Overview

The Florida Lung Transplant Center emerged in 2010 from the flagship lung transplant program in the state of Florida, started at Shands Hospital in 1994. Since the program’s inception, physicians have successfully performed more than 500 lung transplant operations, including the first adult, first pediatric and first heart-lung transplants in Florida, the first re-transplant in the state and the first transplant for ventilator dependent patients.

The Florida Lung Transplant Center team is dedicated to maintaining the highest level of patient and referring physician satisfaction. The development and successful operation of a complex procedure such as organ transplantation is challenging and requires the integration of many resources within the health center. Pharmacists, physical therapists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals are committed to focusing their education and research on the problems of patients with advanced lung disease.

The team members of the Florida Lung Transplant Center are leaders in the field of transplantation. Members lecture worldwide, are actively involved in transplant policy-making committees, and are nationally recognized for their contributions to clinical transplantation and research.

The multidisciplinary team draws on the combined talents and experience of members skilled in pulmonary medicine, thoracic surgery, anesthesia, pathology, radiology, pharmacy, nursing, research coordination, social work, physical therapy, psychology and financial planning.
